Vintage Ontario Highway Signs, Maps and Photos

Looking back over the years, our family was in the car a lot growing up. My father loved taking us for Sunday drives in the country. But more so, we visited family in Northern Ontario routinely - sometimes 4 to 5 times a year depending on what event was going on. Traveling from Ottawa, the drive along highway 17 was long and we didn't have all the toys and gadgets kids have these days to keep us occupied. The activity was looking out the window and soaking up the sights and scenery. As a result I've always been interested in roads, highways, bridges and maps. This page shows some highway memorabilia I've collected over the years.

KING'S HIGHWAY SIGNS

I'm trying to limit the collection with highways (past and present) from Eastern Ontario. These are the ones I have so far. I'm hoping to eventually acquire Highways 32, 34, 42 and 132 to complete the collection.

ONTARIO ROAD MAPS

Below are Official Ontario Road Maps produced by the Ontario Government. The cover art and pictures on some of these really capture the time period in which they produced. The maps also show what Ontario's standard signage was at the time. As time permits, I'll be uploading high resolution scans of the entire maps for reference.
